Writer’s Block VS Writer’s Burnout
They are not the same thing
Contrary to what a lot of people think, writer burnout and writer’s block are not the same things. They are not an excuse not to write, and they are certainly not a way to procrastinate. Both writer’s burnout and writer’s block are very real things.
So, what’s the difference between them? Well, from my experience, It’s a lot harder to recover from burnout than block. It can take weeks, months, and sometimes even years to overcome burnout. Writer’s block tends to be something a little easier to overcome.
With writer’s block, I can often change projects, reread a previous chapter, or even talk out the issue I’m having in my story with other writers, and be back to writing within a few days. For me, writer’s block has never lasted more than a week. It can be different for everyone, and it may take someone a lot longer, or a lot less, than a week to get back into the swing of things.
Writer’s block is mostly a psychological thing. It’s all in your head, as some would say. This doesn’t necessarily mean it’s easy to overcome. If you are having issues with not being able to write, try reading, looking at pictures or book covers, or listening to music. These are the things that work for me.
