Work Hard, Live Life, And Be Happy.

3 min readDec 6, 2019

3 things my mother taught me.

As a small child I can remember my mom always encouraging her children to work hard. There were three of us kids and my mom assigned each of us 3 chores a week. Each week we would get different chores so we wouldn’t get bored doing the same thing.

She would keep track of what we did or didn’t do, and we would get paid a small amount for each chore we did. She also had a list of other things we could do and a set amount for each task.

My brothers did their three chores and nothing more. I on the other hand learned rather quickly that I could make some money by dusting, sweeping, or taking out the trash. I often did more than was required of me and got rewarded for it.

I got my first job delivering newspapers when I was twelve. I was so proud of myself and enjoyed the freedom money gave me. I no long had to ask my mother if I wanted a toy or a candy bar, I could buy it myself.

My younger brother soon became jealous and after a year of watching me get things I wanted he too got a job delivering newspapers.

The work ethic that my mother instilled in me at a young age has served me well in my adult years. I am grateful that I had a mom who cared enough to teach me the benefit of hard work.
