Tips to Declutter A Messy House

You know those homes you go into, and everything is nice and tidy. I don’t have one of those homes. I am a messy person. My family is messy. One day I just got tired of the constant mess and vowed to change it. Here are a few of the things that worked for me.

Find your “dumping ground” and get rid of it.

My living room became a dumping ground for everyone and everything. Even my three year old started leaving toys there. So one day, I cleaned the whole area and told everyone that whatever was left in the living room at the end of the day would be mine.

Of course, they didn’t think I was serious, and after a few toys and a favorite stuffed animal disappeared, the living room started looking a lot cleaner. I know it sounds harsh, but by making a consequence and sticking with it, my living room was no longer a dumping ground for everyone’s stuff. Don’t worry, I gave them back the toys and beloved stuffed animal.

Paper clutter

The next area I needed to tackle was my paper clutter, most of that being in the form of mail. I got a basket and hung on the wall and a magazine rack (because it worked really well). The mail went into the basket until I had time to look at it instead of on my desk. In the magazine rack, I would keep my bills and any other…
