Tips For Writing Faster
Writing fast is a good skill to have
Have you ever wondered how some writers can put out three short stories plus three articles and write a chapter in their novel all in one day? The secret is fast writing.
So how does someone go about writing fast? Here are a few tips that might help.
Before you get started writing, get rid of any distractions. For me, that means leaving my phone in another room, shutting the door so I don’t get distracted by my son and husband having fun, and turning off anything that makes noise. I work in silence.
It’s also a good idea to turn off your spelling/grammar checker. If you’re like me, the squiggly red lines are annoying to look at, and you feel compelled to stop and fix every little mistake. This just slows you down, so turn it off and fix all those mistakes after you have finished writing the article or story.
Some people stop after every paragraph and reread what they wrote. That’s fine if you don’t need to write in a hurry. When you’re on a roll, don’t stop to reread what you wrote, it only slows your momentum, and you may not be able to pick up where you left off.
The last tip I have for you, and probably the one that helps me the most, is to get in the zone for writing. Have a designated area for your writing.
Somewhere so when you sit down, your brain goes, it’s time to write. If you listen to music, turn it on. Grab a snack and a drink and anything else you do when you get ready to write. Having a routine for when you sit to write will tell your brain it’s time to work and help you focus on the task at hand.
Not all of these things may work for you, but it doesn’t hurt to give them a try.
