Time and Energy
The two most important things you need to make your day work.
For most of us, there just isn’t enough time in the day to get everything done. But what if time isn’t the only reason we can’t accomplish all our tasks for a day?
A study in 2014 revealed that it wasn’t the worker who put in a full eight hour day that was the most productive. It turns out that workers who take breaks accomplish more.
Working constantly does not mean you are going to be more productive than someone who only works in short bursts.
In fact, your constant working is actually slowing down your productivity because you stay anxious and stressed out. Stress can zap your energy making you sluggish, which means you work slower and get less done.
Taking a fifteen-minute break for every hour of work helps your mind and body relax. I tried this and found that I felt better at the end of the day, and even managed to get all my tasks for the day completed.
Although the breaks helped me feel rested and even allowed me to accomplish more, I did feel myself getting distracted on occasion. It’s easy to get distracted when you take that many small breaks throughout the day, so make sure you set a timer or alarm to help keep you on track.
