Being a perfect parent should never be a goal. Let’s face it, there is no such thing as a perfect parent. The most we can strive for is to be a great parent.

So what things do all great parents have in common? What makes them so great? It’s really pretty simple.

Parenting is the most researched topic, according to adolescence expert Laurence Steinberg, Ph.D. There isn’t a set way to parent children because every child is unique and different. Parenting is a series of adjustments and adaptions as your child grows and learns. But there are a few things that should never change as your child grows. These are the things that make a parent great.

Be a good role model.

Being a good role model should never change, no matter what stage of life your child is going through. From a baby to an adult, if you can be a good role model, someone they can look up to, you are doing something right. Teach them some basic morals and help them to keep an open mind.

Your child watches what you do and mimics it, so before you react to a situation, think about how you would want your child to act in the same situation.

Show them love.
