The Benefits of Reading

A lot of people read because it’s relaxing, but there are other benefits too.

Reading for me is not only relaxing, it’s an escape from life. Every one needs to escape reality every once in a while. But relaxation and escape aren’t the only reasons to read.

It can help prevent Alzheimer. According to a study by the national academy of science, older people who read daily are two and a half times less likely to have Alzheimer’s. That’s sounds like a good reason to read regularly to me.

Want to expand your vocabulary? Read a book. That’s right, reading can help you learn new words and make you smarter.

Being an avid reader actually helps you learn things. Not only does it fill your head with new things, but it also helps you retain information and maintain that knowledge through old age.

A study done by the national endowment of the arts found that people who regularly read are more likely to engage civically and culturally. It also found that people who read are more likely to vote and exercise. So pick up a book, because reading can help you win at life.
