Set Boundaries For The People In Your Life

We all have those negative people in our life that would rather tear us down and complain than be happy and supportive. You may not have the option of avoiding them, but you can set boundaries for how you interact with them.

So what are boundaries when it comes to dealing with people?

Simply put, boundaries are limits. Lines you make that you don’t let anyone else cross. It’s setting guidelines about how you allow other people to treat you.

We all have people in our lives who are hurtful, manipulative, and frustrating to deal with. Setting healthy personal boundaries can keep you from getting hurt physically and emotionally.

Clear boundaries show others that you have respect for yourself, and you expect them to have respect for you too. They show others that you are willing to stand up for yourself, and not let them take advantage of you.

Setting boundaries does not mean you will change the people around you, it only means that you can change the way they interact with you.

So how do you take control of your life and set boundaries?

The first step is self-awareness. Be aware of what your needs are from those you are around. For me, I need others to have respect and be polite. I also don’t allow a lot of swearing.
