Mom’s Don’t Get Sick Days

3 min readNov 25, 2019

Being a parent is a twenty-four hour, seven day a week job.

As a mother I don’t get vacations or time off. I hardly ever get a break, and I most certainly don’t get sick days.

When dad gets sick he gets to sit on the couch under a pile of covers, and binge watch his favorite T.V. show. When mom gets sick, no one seems to care. Grab the super hero cape and go on about your day as if nothing is different.

I don’t get sick very often, but I have learned a few tricks for the times I am.

First of all it is perfectly okay to sit your kids down in front of the T.V. and let them watch a couple shows. I keep a bag with about three DVDs in it for sick days. I always stress to my son how special it is that he gets to watch the movies from the bag. It usually buys me an hour or two of sitting on the couch resting.

I also have a goodie bag with three or four toys in that he has never seen or played with before. You don’t have to have anything expensive I get mine from the dollar tree. Anything new is enough to keep them occupied for at least a little while.

I keep a new coloring book on hand too. Even if my son wants me to color with him I still get to rest as this is an activity I can do sitting down.
