How to Prevent Burnout
Burnout can happen to anyone, but there are ways to prevent it.
Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes once said,
“Too many people die with their music still in them.”
So what happens when the person is still alive but the music has died? That’s what burnout feels like. You are still alive but your music has died.
Nobody wants to get burnout. It can effect you mentally, physically and emotionally. Here are some things you can do to prevent it.
I would say for me the best thing, and the most fun, was to find a creative outlet. In other words you should get a hobby. Having a creative outlet will not only relieve some stress, it will also help keep you engaged and motivated. Having an outlet can help you perform better at work, and decreases your chances of getting burnout.
Take care of yourself. I’m guilty of not being able to relax. I always think there is something I need to do. Don’t be afraid to just sit and take a break. Your work will still be there when you get back.
Increase your positive emotion. Stop being so hard on yourself. When you do a good job congratulate yourself, go out for a celebratory dinner. You don’t always have to pick out what’s wrong with what you did. Sometimes you need to just focus on the good.
