How To Get Better Sleep
Sleep is so important, and yet most of us don’t get enough, or we don’t get good quality sleep. Without sleep, your body doesn’t function.
Did you know that sleep deprivation can lead to stroke, heart attack, depression, and can leave you feeling anxious and irritable.
If you’re like me, you’re told to get at least six hours of sleep every night, but it turns out that may not be enough. According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, seven and a halt to nine hours is the sweet spot.
So here are a few tips to help you get a good night’s sleep.
Obey your bedtime.
This is a hard one for me. I often set a time to go to bed, then ignore it and stay up way later than I should. It’s a good idea to set a bedtime and make a habit of being in bed at that time. Staying up late can through your body out of rhythm and make you wake up grouchy and groggy.
Turn down the lights an hour before bed.
I know this sounds a little silly, but you’re setting the mood here, the mood for bedtime. Making it a habit of turning down the lights every night cues your body that it’s getting close to bedtime, and it will help your body slow down and get settled for bed.
