Do One Thing At A Time

The dangers of multitasking, and why I went from a multitasker to a, one task at a time person.

Multitasking has always been thought to be the way to get more done. The more tasks you can do at a time, the more productive you will be.

For some things, multitasking may still work. But if you’re like me, most of your tasks require a certain amount of attention that you just can’t give if you are doing two things at once.

I use to multitask all the time. I would make breakfast, check my emails, write a post for my blog, and do research for my next novel. The end result of this was a burnt breakfast, only responding to one email, a mediocre post, and I couldn’t remember a thing a read for my research.

I ended up doing more work because I had to rewrite my blog post, and do the research again for my novel. Multitasking didn’t help me, it actually made more work for me.

Most people who multitask don’t do their best work. When you have too much going on at one time, it’s hard to focus and do the best job you can.

There are some things you can do at the same time. I do a load of laundry while I wash the dishes. Since the laundry doesn’t require my attention, it’s easy to do something else while I wait for the spin cycle to end.
