Why is the word commitment so scary?

Commitment in a relationship means making something strong and healthy. It means trust, loyalty and love.

It seems so simple, so why are so many people scared of having a committed relationship?

When most people think of being committed they think of something long term, but that’s not always the case. When you commit to someone you are dating, you are simply saying you will date or see them exclusively. However, when you commit to being married you are making a life long commitment. Something not everyone is willing to do.

So what exactly is a committed relationship?

Well, as I stated earlier, it is agreeing to date or see each other exclusively. This is the standard for commitment. However, each relationship and each couple is different. The most important thing is that you both agree on what your definition of committed is.

Surety is a big part of having a healthy committed relationship. What that means is you both have come to an agreement about what your standards are, and there is no confusion on where you stand.

Commitment means being transparent. If you are truly committed you will be transparent about your feelings, expectations and deeds.
