Being Bored With Your Writing Could Be Good

Learning to be bored with your story, means learning to love the exciting scenes more.

I’m not talking about being bored with writing in general. I’m talking about when you read what you wrote, and you are bored. Trust me, if you’re bored, so is your reader.

Don’t worry, this could be a good thing for you as a writer. It lets you know where the action in your story has slowed to a crawl or maybe even came to a screeching halt.

The idea is, you want to keep your reader interested by going from one action scene to another and leaving out all the boring stuff like packing for a trip or even the actual traveling if nothing really happens on the trip.

Whenever you read a section of your story, and you’re bored with it, take another look at how necessary it is. Maybe it’s something you can cut or maybe shorten.

I’m sure now you’re thinking, “but how do I keep it feeling realistic if I cut out all the stuff that makes it feel that way?”

That’s a good question. You don’t have to cut out every detail, but you don’t have to add every detail either.
