5 Life Lessons I Learned From My Horse
Horses are more then just animals.
I started riding when I was twelve years old. By the time I was fifteen I knew working with horses was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Unfortunately a move to another state, a marriage, and one child later, I no longer have the option to work with horses as my career.
Although I am no longer working with horses everyday, I still carry with me the lessons I learned from them.
1. How to be confident.
As a teenager I was very shy and a little insecure. I didn’t have many friends and I didn’t really talk to people. When I sat down on the back of my horse everything changed. I was good with horses and I felt so much freedom when I rode. Eventually the confidence I felt on the back of my horse carried over into other areas of my life.
I am now a mostly confident person.
2. To be humble.
I can remember several times when my horse has kept me humble, but one time in particular sticks with me. I was sixteen and I can remember bragging about how well mannered my horse was, and how he listened to every command I gave him. That night when I was riding I decided to do some jumping. Something I didn’t do very often.
